Clip of the Week: August 23, 2023

On August 23, 2023 by Elyse

Talk about a claim to flame. Folks, we have another world record:

The other day, for the tenth time in his life, Joseph Maski, 103 years old, believed to be the oldest person in Chicago, was rescued from a fire which threatened to destroy the building in which he lived, at No. 8961, Superior Avenue, South Chicago. Maski was rescued from the Chicago fire in 1871, and has been in two theatre fires and several other small blazes.

– The Auckland Star, December 22, 1906

With my tendency for burning quinoa and his tendency for being in burning buildings, we should never meet.

Am I trying too hard?

You know what I’d call someone with a track record like that? An arsonist.

Still he was a one-trick pony, compared to this guy: https://cnyhistoryunfiltered.wordpress.com/2021/05/18/for-sale-good-luck-charm/

😂 It’s a little suspicious that he’s the fire department’s most loyal customer… But he keeps them in business, so maybe they’re in on it.

OMG! A couple near-death accidents I can understand, but Harvey is in the running for a Darwin Award. What was he thinking going anywhere near a gun and train tracks???
